Given a choice between a product made in the U.S. and an identical one made abroad, 78 percent of Americans would rather buy the American product, according to a new nationally representative survey by the Consumer Reports National Research Center.
Surprisingly, though, it’s not strictly a sense of patriotism that gives Made In USA such great appeal. Costs for imports have increased as much as 25 percent during the past five years – largely due to significant overhead – while costs for goods made in the United States have remained flat (Wall Street Journal). The on-again, off-again Chinese tariffs also ad to uncertainty.
Just as importantly, there’s been increased value placed on compliance, safety and quality. So for whatever difference may remain in cost, more and more people are willing to pay a little more for the confidence that comes with Made In USA products.
As for safety and compliance, there are few product categories for which it matters more than Health & Beauty. That’s why so many people look to HumphreyLine for hand sanitizers, lip balms, tooth brushes and sunscreens.
